We have rarely, perhaps never, in our lives had the opportunity to see what would happen if the world almost stopped – like right now. We should take advantage of that opportunity to ask some very hard questions.
The concept of humanistic management has been making waves in the workforce for a while, but many employers may still not quite understand what it means or how to implement it. A great place to start working toward this management strategy is by focusing on compassionate listening and feedback. Understanding why humanistic management is important and how communication plays a major role in it is the first step toward beginning to implement these practices into your own office environment.
Amongst all this angst what the future might hold for tourism and the many individuals affected, there is no doubt people will travel again to see their loved ones, and people will long for going on holiday after months of staying at home. When that time comes, we need to have a blueprint ready for a tourism industry that prioritises humanity over profits if we want (the industry) to survive indeed.
Extreme and growing wealth inequality, ideological terrorism, climate change, widespread environmental damage. The seemingly endless crises faced by humankind demand a fundamental rethink of how we organize at the geopolitical level, the societal level, the economic level, and the organizational level.
Today, an effective leader is only able to lead his followers if she can articulate their true concerns and represent their shared collective ideals. The leader needs to listen to her followers in order to know their concerns. Listening is an important part of good communication. It is the missing piece in all the leadership communications methods.
There are several scholars in India doing good work that is perfectly aligned with the Humanistic Management values and goals. This community is connecting at the Indian Academy of Management Conference at the Indian Institute of Management – Trichy, where there are several paper sessions, and an Improv workshop and a panel on Humanistic Management.
Every two years, the Network for Business Sustainability brings together members of its Sustainability Centres Community (SCC) to discuss the challenges and opportunities in directing a sustainability centre within a business schools. The 2020 workshop will have two objectives: (1) to increase impact and (2) to build collective wisdom. All activities will emphasize peer learning and transformative change.
